Revitalisation of dry stone walls as places of productivity and habitats
description
Once a vital transit valley, Bregaglia has lost much of its former activity. The project seeks to revive its cultural landscape through the reintroduction of terraced agriculture inspired by viticulture. Using the passive potential of dry-stone walls, new terraces are formed to cultivate vines and press wine on site. A communal storage facility in Bondo takes advantage of natural ground cooling to ensure ideal ageing conditions and serves as a place for exchange between winemakers and visitors. The architecture draws from the pragmatic beauty of local craftsmanship — transforming ancient techniques into a new productive landscape. Reviving forgotten knowledge and reactivating the landscape creates both economic and cultural renewal for the valley.
