THREE HOUSES – ONE BALCONY

Residential Building in Binningen, CH

description

The volume of the new residential development is distributed across three three-storey buildings arranged in a staggered formation. The protrusions and recesses allow the building to blend into its surroundings and create a scale appropriate for the single-family home neighbourhood. The staggered arrangement of the buildings allows the green space to come close to the building, creating a symbiotic connection between architecture and nature. Access to the new residential development is via a gradual approach. From the public space, one first enters the semi-public access zone before finally entering the private living space. The centrally located access axis extends across the entire depth of the building and connects the individual volumes with each other. It is the heart of the development and, in addition to providing access to the individual apartments, also serves as a place for people to meet and interact. The new building is designed as a consistent timber construction. The visible static supporting structure and the precise tectonic joining of the individual components determine the external appearance. The building envelope consists of vertical timber formwork in a subtle shade of green. The formwork direction changes in the ceiling area, further emphasising the multifaceted contours of the building. The visible supporting structure continues inside the flats. The clear and concise floor plans are tailored to the static structure, which characterises the flats and gives them their individual expression.
