The construction process of the Grand Dixence dam
description
This paper provides a general overview of the construction process for dams in the 1950s. To explore the subject in greater depth, the construction of the Grande Dixence Dam is described in more detail, and the spirit of the times – when dam construction was booming – is examined. Alongside the complex site infrastructure and its extension into neighbouring valleys, a distinct subculture emerged on these construction sites.
In light of the current energy crisis and the current climate situation, hydropower plays an important and forward-looking role in Swiss energy generation. This thesis illustrates the boom of a bygone era in the energy sector and can serve as a basis for approaching today’s pressing issues with optimism and thus embarking on the search for simple and long-term solutions.
